10 Super Simple Ways To Be Happy

Everyone strives to be happy but the mistake everyone makes is that they think happiness is some kind of finishing line in a race. Once you crossed that line, you will live happily ever after. That is not true. Happiness is a choice! You can choose to make your life happy. So here are a few ways you could try.

1. Let go of past memories.

Everyone has both sad and happy moments.
So forget about your painful memories. What’s in the past stays in the past.
Instead, focus on your good memories and move on.

2. Be optimistic.

Always try looking on the bright side of things. Look for the silver lining behind each dark cloud. For example, if you had an unfortunate accident and your car is badly dented, but on the bright side, nobody got hurt and that dent in your car can be repaired. There is always a bright side to look on so be optimistic!
3. Be close to your family

Try and maintain a close relationship with your family and friends. Our relationships with them have a greater impact on our happiness than anything else. Human beings are made to be social creatures. So appreciate the existing relationships that you have.

4. Try finding a job that gives you happiness.

If you are feeling stressed out in your current job and not getting the job satisfaction that you want, perhaps it’s time for a career change. Job satisfaction plays an important part in your happiness. So give your job a chance. Try having a positive attitude in your job.               If that doesn’t work, it may be time for a change of jobs.

 5. Make friends

You need to make friends with people who share a common interest. Find something that you are deeply passionate about. It could be a hobby or an organization you can volunteer in. There you could meet people who have the same interest and passion as you.

6. Exercise.

Exercising releases endorphins. So, not only are you taking care of your body but you will automatically start feeling good about yourself.

7. Change your thoughts.

You have to start living life to the fullest. Don’t delay your life a second longer. Try something new everyday or pick up a new skill!

8. Don’t let the small stuff bug you.

Remember all the small petty stuff that used to bother you? Forget all about it and focus on the bigger picture. Life is too short to be worry about trivial stuff.

9. Live your life for yourself

Stop trying to live your life up to other people’s expectations. You are your own person. So start living it for yourself!

10.Lastly, remember to love with all your heart.

You have all this love to give so give your love to something or someone and start feeling happy today!

How Laughter Can Improve Your Overall Health

Laughter can be infectious.

When you hear the sound of laughter, you can’t help but laugh yourself. When laughter is shared among others, it causes a binding between people and increases both intimacy and happiness. It is well known that laughter triggers healthy bodily changes and healthy changes in the mind. Laughter is Strong Medicine

Laughter can be a strong antidote to conflict, pain, and stress. There is nothing else that works more dependable or quicker to bring your body and mind into balance than laughter. The use of humor can lighten your burdens, connect you to others, inspire your hope, and keep you focused, alert, and grounded.

With this ability to renew your health and heal you, laughter can be a great resource for whatever problems you may have. It can also strengthen your relationships, and can support your emotional and physical health and wellbeing.

Laughter can do many things for your health. These include the following:

  • Laughter can increase your immune system. It can decrease the level of stress hormones within the body and increase the number of immune cells and antibodies you have, which will help you become more resistant to disease.

  • Laughter is relaxing. A wonderful laugh can relieve you of stress and physical tension so that your muscles can be relaxed for up to 45 minutes following laughing.

  • Laughter releases endorphins. Endorphins are the body’s feel-good hormones. When your endogenous endorphins are released, you feel a sense of well-being and a reduction in the sensation of pain.

  • Laughter can help the heart. Laughter can increase the ability of the blood vessels to nourish all parts of the body. It can increase your blood flow, which in turn can help prevent heart attacks and other types of heart diseases.

The Overall Benefits Of Laughter

Laughter is known to have many health benefits, including physical, emotional, and social benefits. Some of these include the following:

  • Decreases your stress levels

Laughter Can Help Your Emotional Health

Laughter simply makes a person feel good. This good feeling persists even when you are done laughing. Laughter helps you maintain an optimistic, positive outlook so you can better get through situations of loss, disappointments, and other difficult situations.

Laughter is more than just a protection against pain and sadness. It gives you the strength and courage to find other sources of hope and meaning. Even when you find yourself in the most difficult of times, laughter or even a smile can take you far when it comes to feeling better. Laughter really is a bit contagious. When you hear someone else laugh, it primes your brain and sets you up to join that person in laughing, too.

Laughter can lessen distress. It is hard to feel sad, anxious, or angry when you are instead laughing.

 Weekly Photo Challenge

Friday, we ask you to look through your lens in a different way. Today, look down and document the world beneath your feet.

These photos are not actually beneath my feet, but the are down near my feet.  🙂

Hemarisdiffinis, there is one in my garden!

While living in the far northeastern corner of British Columbia, Canada. I witnessed this amazing little critter hovering between my flowerpots, sampling them all. As I watch him go from flower to flower, I am fascinated by this little creature, unaware that his species even exists. Wikipedia calls them Hemarisdiffinis  a.k.a. hummingbird moth.

Franticly grabbing my iPhone I start snapping pictures, and these two are probably the best of them all. Be sure to click on these photos in order to get the full image of Mr. Hemarisdiffinis. What if this is our new species of pollinator?

I do believe they are a common sight and even considered pests in some parts of the world, but they are a sight to be seen this far north. How in the world do they survive our -40-degree Celcius winters? Do they migrate as well, like birds?

What a privilege to see one of the most amazing creations of nature. I only witnessed him a couple of times since, and I sure hope they or him return next year.

If you look closely in the one picture, you can actually see his tongue, beak and antennas. In the other photograph, I managed to capture his wings.2015-06-22 14.41.51

Amazing what you can discover when you look done!

PART TWO

THE NIEBOURHOOD MOMS AND THEIR KIDS

In our homeowners insurance policy, the pool in our back yard had to be securely fenced, with a lockable gate, and it was. It also stated that in order to avoid any unnecessary lawsuits, all children in our pool must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardian over 19. I tried very hard to stand by that rule, but, of course, there is always the exception.

Next door to us lived a single mother and her two boys that just happened to be roughly the same age as the younger siblings visiting for the summer. They were all old enough to be somewhat responsible for taking care of the younger ones, so that I didn’t have to actually get in the pool with them, giving me the opportunity to get other household chores done. Everyone had a great time and made some great friends.

On this particular day, the pestering to be in the pool began early. I had a fair amount of activities to complete for the day so I agreed. The older kids helped the younger ones get ready and the next thing I knew the water is splashing and everyone is laughing and playing about in the pool. The sound of water splashing onto the deck and the kids laughter echoed through the house.

As the morning rolled on into the afternoon, the temperature began to rise. Most of the nieghbourhood moms knew our rules for the pool and didn’t want to come supervise their kids, so it was just mostly the nieghbour boys and the two kids I babysat, that we’re the extras in the pool with out thier moms. Never was there a time when they were all in the pool at the same time. My ability to supervise was limited and I was unwilling to have that responsiblety.

While sitting on the deck that afternoon watching the kids, I noticed out of the corner of my eye, this little face pearing in between the bars of the gate. It was a young girl about 7 or 8 years old and I did not recognize her. By this time we had lived in the neighbourhood long enough to know who all the nieghbourhood kids were.  I wondered if she might be new to the nieghbourhood, or maybe one of the kids from a different nieghbourhood. I didn’t remember seeing any moving vans lately and normally nieghbourhood kids stay in their own nieghbourhoods, unless invited by friends from school.

I went over to the gate and began talking to the girl. I asked her waht her name was and where she was from and where her mom was. As soon as she started speaking, I knew something was just not right…

  • Write about a loss
  • It does not need to be depressing
  • reflecting on the experience
  • What it means to me
  • How it felt
  • Why it happened
  • What changed because of it

Now here is the twist….  This post must be wrote in a 3-post series.

PART ONE

HAS ANYONE SEEN MY RINGS?

rings

The day my rings went missing.

I was standing at my kitchen sink, peering out the window while doing dishes, the  morning sun was reflecting off the water on the pool and I remember thinking that it was going to be another beautiful hot summer day. Today is going to be one of those days were I spend my entire afternoon supervising my kids and the neighbourhood kids in our pool.

Along with the neighbourhood kids, came the neighbourhood moms…

pool rules

  • If you want to swim in the pool you have to have a parent with you
  • I can only be responsible for my own kids
  • You have to follow MY pool rules, as it is MY pool
  • When I say, “it’s time to get out of the pool” that means, get out of the pool!
  • Neighbourhood kids can only be in the pool from noon till 4pm

Needless to say, I didn’t get a whole lot done during those beautiful hot summer days. Many of the summers in those years, we would have our youngest family members come and stay while they were on their school summer vacation. They were much older than my kids and in a lot of ways I surely appreciated their help and their company. We have developed great relationships with those kids, because of those hot summer days…

to be continued

NEXT MONDAY, WE’LL GET TO MEET THE NEIGHBOURHOOD KIDS AND THEIR MOMS!!!

Writing 101/ write blindly for 20 minutes

writing blindly

To write blindly for twenty minutes without any aim or direction and no stopping till the 20 minutes are up. What do you suppose a writer would write about in 20 minutes?  What do you suppose someone would talk about if they knew they only had 20 minutes to talk? As I’m having a menopausal moment of heating up from the inside out I suppose one could talk about that… One thing I did notice a couple of summers ago while experiencing a memorable hot flash. I remember thinking it would be awesome to have all my long hair chopped off for the summer and how much cooler and easier it would be to care for. ( 12 mins into writing this ) Wrong! I went ahead and cut my hair short, style’n, looking good, until I went to blow dry my hair the next day. It didn’t seem to matter how long I stood there trying to get my hair dry. It seemed like the longer I had the hair dryer pointed at my head the wetter my hair got. Having a hot flash while trying to dry your short hair in the summer heat, is futile. Twenty minutes are up….

A new kind of fighting in the front room!

Featured image

First off, I would just like to mention that I think I’m a pretty cool hip grandma. I’m all down with this whole computer generation and I even know enough about computers to have a blog. Go Grandma! Right?

Well just the other day, while the granddaughters were over visiting, I got the eye opener of a life time. Upon entering the front room, I hear squabbling between my 2 granddaughters. Oh I know, nothing new there, kids squabble and fight with one another all the time, especially siblings. Right?

Well! I walked in on something I have never seen before in my live. I just stood there dumbfounded, I could not believe what I was witnessing.  All I could do was watch in silent horror!

In one corner of the front room Claire is squatting on the chair in complete stress, whipping her finger across her iPad in a mad frenzy, her face is all scrunched up and she’s yelling at her sister Emma, all the while madly defending something on her iPad screen. “No! No! No! Don’t use the fire!” she screeches. As I look over at Emma, on the opposite side of the front room, she is also madly swiping her finger across her iPad. Only she has this evil grin on her face and she is giggling in a low growling voice. “No! No! Not the sword Emma, not the sword!” Claire bellows across the room.

Upon reaching Claire on this side of the front room, I looked down on to her iPad screen and could not believe what I was witnessing! Standing there welding a huge sword back and forth was the weirdest looking creature, trying to resemble a human being. It was 2 dimensional, but yet 3 dimensional, and the surroundings were square,  just plain odd-looking. All the while Claire is yelling at her sister to stop, frantically trying to get away from her sister’s character, who is chasing her character around with a huge sword, in this un-dimensional building. If that makes any sense? The disturbance finely got to the point where I actually had to give them the finger-pointing and lecture about being nice to each other. I could not believe the two of them were fighting each other in virtual reality. I’m like “are you kidding me!” Upon explaining the issue to their mother, I was further stunned by her reply, “awe, don’t worry about it mom, they do this all the time.” She explained to me that usually when it gets too heated, they have to put their iPad’s away and actually have to go play with each other.

I guess I’m not as hip as I thought. I knew you could play video games together on one screen, I suppose I didn’t realize how far technology really has gone. Now we can battle each other from across the room and not even touch each other. I can go and destroy your village, burn down your house, slay all your farm animals, murder you and your family, all while I’m sitting across the front room from you or even while I’m sitting next to you. CRAZY!

I can honestly say that I am not very keen to this new way of interacting with one another, but I’m not closed-minded either. Some how I can see this being the on set of our Zombie generation to come. A generation of people who never have to leave their homes for anything. Everything will be generated through a massive computer era, the computer supper age will dominate all we do…

I would love to read your comments and ideas on this topic. Do you think we can stop our kids and their kids generation from becoming a world of computer Zombies? Will it truly be the way of the new generations to come? Will people eventually get to the point of never having to leave their homes? Will the world become a place of abandonment, will the city streets be empty, buildings, warehouses, factory’s, gas stations, grocery stores all abandon because they are no longer needed. Everything in this era will be satisfied with computers, computers will control all the world and will be the sole provider for our every needs…
